Hi all,
Just wondering if any of you could give me a rough idea of how much it costs to get a combi boiler put in? I have a small one bed flat and only four radiators, I think only one would need replaced, the others are fairly new.
I'm hoping that this will mean that I can get rid of the water tanks in my flat, is this possible?
Thanks muchly,
Suz

Yes with a combi all the tanks can go.
Your water can then come direct from the mains, that is how it was in my last house.
Cost for a combi and one rad depends on the boiler make you choose and where you are in the country. I suspect a range of £1.2k to 2k is possible.
Edit - I see you are in Scotland so lucky you it will be cheaper than down here in the expensive nether regions of the Country0 -
Thanks, I'm swithering whether to get it done this year or next. I don't want to rack up anymore debt but my old boiler is on its last legs.[STRIKE]Student Loan = 798 @ Jan 2013 Target date to clear = 2013 DONE [/STRIKE]

hi i had a whole system fitted 12 months ago when i bought my house.
prices quoted to me were,
combi boiler on its own - £1800
combi boiler + 10 rads + entire house repiped with plastic pipes - £2700
combi boiler + 10 rads + repiped with copper - £2900
boiler is a worcester greenstar 30cdi
i went for the £2900 full job as its an old house 1930's
bear in mind when comparing that u have a flat and i have 3 bed semi. also like u say one other good thing is the extra space in the bedroom and the loft where the tanks used to be.
hope the info helps...0 -
For this size of pad you will only need a boiler with a number '24' in the name. It relates to the heat output and is about the smallest you will get. No need to pay more for a larger output boiler.
Try this website to give you an idea of the prices. Its probably the best site around.

as you will see on there, sorry d_arren, but the worcester greenstar 30 cdi is half what you where quoted. Obviously your fitter is going to put a markup on stuff he supplies but knowing what they cost in the first place will help you negotiate or supply yourself.0 -

Good afternoon: Perhaps the £1800 for the Worcester was the price to supply and fit? The price he paid for a new central heating system was not unreasonable. If you supply the boiler yourself then generally you will have deal directly with the manufacturer in the event of a fault rather than your CORGI...if the CORGI supplies the appliance then he/she will deal with Worcester...the same would go for bathroom fittings etc...standard practice in many trades.

Hi
British Gas are doing an oline boiler sale at the moment. I am not saying they will be the cheapest cos I hjaven't checked that out but I thought it might be worth looking at! We are thinking of having a combi system cos we want a loft conversion and need the tank out of the loft.0 -
Just want to reply to the remarks from matty-hunt.Sorry but I don't think that person knows what they are talking about.Buying a boiler with a 24 in its 'name' would give you a boiler which would do your heating no different from a boiler with a 28 or a 32 in its name. The heating side of combi boilers aren't a problem which ever boiler you use.The problem comes when you want a decent flow rate of hot water.A 24kw boiler would give you alot less flow rate than a 32kw one, therefore your bath for instance would take alot longer to fill.If it was me I would always go for the best hot water flow rate I could afford. And for the second point-the worcester boiler is around £900 to£1000 on that site, which is half the price quoted but the other half of the quote might just be for fitting the boiler or would you want it to stay in the box looking nice0
