Currys item under warranty bought via ebay

Options
Hi, first post and thanks for having me on the forum

I have a bit of a problem with a computer I bought on ebay. The item was sold as "under warranty" from currys. The receipt came with the item and it was bought in may. My question is- does the warranty now transfer to me since I now own the item?

    Depends on the conditions of the warranty, it's up to the supplier of the warranty ie Curry's as to whether it's transferrable or not. A warranty is a contract drawn up by the guarantor and they can put whatever terms and conditions they want in it.

    Will also depend on how the computer was registered for support. With Currys they often only require the warranty number/ information before they get on with looking at the problem. What issues are you having with it??
  • Thanks for the help so far. I regged it for tech support a few days ago under my name, with "thetechguys". The name on the receipt is the previous owner however.

    The technical problem is this, (I believe);

    on the motherboard there is faulty interaction between BIOS ACPI and poor quality components on the board. An expert would need to be called in to confirm that, but im not the only one this is happening too. On the unofficial support forum for the brand of machines there are like 15 people complaining about it. The same problem was caught in the wild previously with Sony Vaio machines. I monitor the heat and that is not out of the usual range for machines of this spec, its even below normal range. So that leaves, in my view, faulty ACPI as the main suspect.

    Made an appointment to talk to CAB- what I dont know is currys warranty T&C or what my consumer rights are regarding currys- worst case scenario the contract i had is with the ebay seller and i have to put up with it although a point of sale was the warranty being included.

    have the warranty transfered to your name by saying a friend gave it to you as a birthday gift.

    You consumer rights are a separate issue. If you have problems with the warranty then the sale of goods act and distance selling regulations are your only recourse but this is with who you bought it off. So it is the ebay seller who is legally responsible to you for the goods not Currys. If you've registered that specific pc with currys under your name then you've essentially established the contract for the warranty between you and currys. It will be easier to go through with the warranty I suspect rather than your consumer rights as I doubt your ebay seller would be equipped to deal with repair/refund/replacement.

  • thanks all. didnt think of the birthday gift idea, and will bring it up with the CAB & currys. the ebay seller isnt going to want to know (I wouldnt)- you buy stuff on there 'sold as seen' pretty much. caveat emptor and all that, but the good news is this- i asked "thetechguys" a question and they responded so the tech support reg was a bit down the road to establishing a paper trail of some kind leading back to me alone.

    assuming i can get my name to overright the name of the original owner who bought it then the next hurdle will be getting them to accept theres an actual fault. would be likely hard to reproduce following a return to base since the Sony Vaio fault happened when the poor components around the processor reached certain temps in certain conditions. I will need to prove it with an expert, dont have an idea how to go about doing that yet..

    If it is an extended warranty, the original purchaser needs to contact Currys to get it changed to your name.

    So what is the actual symptom? Fan always on or something else?

    You do have the right chipset drivers loaded?
