bye bye Chelsea and Barnsley Building Societies

Chelsea Building Society and Barnsley Building Society branches will disappear from UK High Streets this year, after owner Yorkshire Building Society today announced a programme of 22 branch closures.

As part of an overhaul of its network, Yorkshire said it plans to close six Barnsley branches and seven Chelsea branches, while the rest will be rebranded as Yorkshire BS.

The Chelsea branches closing are those in Kings Road London, Croydon, Exeter, Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton and Westminster. The Barnsley branches being closed are those in Cudworth, Doncaster, Mexborough, Rotherham, Wakefield and Wombwell.

YBS re-branded its siblings, including The Chelsea, a while ago with a new logo but they kept their names.

I'm a little surprised it hasn't kept the Chelsea name to give a pretence of it being a local society.

Sadly, the original Chelsea Head Office will close this June as a result of the changes

They are keeping the Chelsea name for internet and telephone use only.

To be fair, Chelsea & Barnsley have just been brand names for several years.

I would guess is N&P will be next...
