Default I wasn't aware of?

I'm looking to apply for a mortgage in the near future, so I requested experian's report so I could check it, expecting it to be fine, but it's revealed a £56 default in August 2013 with Virgin Media from when I was living in a student house.
I moved out in Dec 2012 on bad terms with my housemates, I'm sure I called them up and asked them to change the name on the account but they are saying there is no notes on the account.
What are my options here? am I going to have to pay this amount to clear my name? Is this going to affect me getting a mortgage if I have no other missed or late payments on anything else apart from this, I never go overdrawn and I pay all my utilities on time in full every month. I have checked my credit score before and it does not show up on these, only on the experian report.

yes there is something you can do , however I will bet it costs you more than £56 to sort out.
just remember when you get a mortgage and move into your new house to vent your revenge on virgin , by giving them 2 big fingers , due to treatment in the pastSave a Rachael

Your default will definitely affect your mortgage options - you will only have a select pool to choose from who will allow a default and even then it won't be at the best rate.
If you were still under contract with Virgin they wouldn't have just changed the name over. Also, you should have written to them and asked for written confirmation that your contract was ended and left it to your ex-housemate to set up their own account.
I don't think you've got much of a leg to stand on with regards to getting it removed so it may just be a case of wait another 3 years until it falls off. You could however call Virgin and ask if they would remove it as a gesture of goodwill.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I had such a rough time back then, moving out because I hated my housemates and trying to study for my final year exams, I should have just closed the account and left them to do whatever, but I didn't...
I want to buy a house within the next few months. Doesn't look possible now, definitely not with a good rate anyway. Experian doesn't even pick up on this on their credit score system and still gives me a perfect 999.

the "score" you are seeing is a random made up number , intended to make you pay money to the company to keep it high
it is not seen by any lender it is a fictitious numberSave a Rachael
