Speaker connection

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, please advice if not.

We have a Technila 32" television and we would like to add some speakers for a better sound.
The instructions say we need a coax output lead, but we don't seem able to get one, although we purchased what we were told was the equivalent, from ebay, but it did not work. Is there a way of just plugging in a lead from the output on the television to one or two speakers and do they have to be certain speakers as we tried it on our sound system speakers and nothing happened.
Can any one help please.

You will need to connect the TV to an amplifier and the speakers to the amplifier. Otherwise you would need to use powered speakers with a built in amplifier.

You can't just plug speakers into a TV for the sound.

Do you have an aux input on your sound system? If so there should be an audio output somewhere on the TV to connect to it. Do they still have phono sockets?

    Only a coax output.

As in... for an aerial cable...?

If that's all you've got, and there's no audio output, you could use an old VCR. Tune the TV into the VCR's signal, connect the VCR to an amp, and the amp to some speakers.

OK....It should have a headphone socket, unless it's really ancient....If it has you could buy some PC speakers and connect them via the headphone socket.....The cost would be down to your budget, but, anything would improve the sound...

Unfortunately Mystic Meg is on holiday so I'm afraid you'll have to reveal the model number of [strike]Technila[/strike] TECHNIKA TV it is as you see the cardboard models can be connected up using skipping rope however the sausage meat ones have to be connected using daisy chains or a length of fallopian tubing.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.
  • coax audio output is usually a digital audio output, which needs to be connected to a digital audio input. This type of digital audio connection is also referred to as an S/PDIF signal, and there are actually two connection types which send exactly the same type of signal. One is this coaxial digital audio connection, and the other is an optical digital audio interface.

You might be able to set the coax output to 'pseudo-analogue' if you go into the settings menu - sound - and set the output to PCM.

If you can't do that then you need an amplifier with a digital coax audio input, or a soundbar which is more likely to have a digital audio input (look for S/PDIF on coax)

I'm not surprised you didn't get anything out of the speakers, then.

What did you connect to them, if it wasn't an audio output?

Model number of TV? Make/model of speakers/sound system?
