Npower gas/elec bills
Options
My husband past away in November 2015 and I've since taken over the utility bills. I was shocked to find the prices my husband had been paying and am concerned that he was paying way too much for our gas and electric with Npower. When I took over the bills Npower told me they were going to charge me £250 a month for gas and elec. When I rang them to say that sounded too much they've reduced it to £95. It is worth me complaining to Npower about the prices my husband had been paying or am I just going to hit a brick wall. These were the prices he was paying last year per month - Jan to April £124 a month, April to July £181 a month, July to Oct £251 a month, my first bill Nov to Dec £250, now paying £95 a month. What are your thoughts?

The account should be in credit, stop all direct debits until credit has been used.0

Dont stop your DD otherwise the bills will revert to the most expensive standard tariff.
Look back over the last 12 months and determine the ACTUAL consumption in Kwhs not £, not estimated.
Then go to a comparison website insert these figures and then be amazed at how much your bills could reduce by.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
And read your meters now and submit actual reads, and request a corrected bill. Your DD amounts aren't for actual usage, they're just credited to your account, So what you need is an up to date statement to see how much your account is in credit by. You can then apply for a refund if applicable, though at this time of year you need some credit in your account to cover the winter bills: at least £100.
Post your annual kWh figures on each fuel and someone will check your best tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Certainly don't stop direct debits or you break the terms & conditions.
If there is a surplus, after actual readings, over a certain amount (£100?) Npower will refund it, probably without you
asking.
They automatically refunded my surplus near the end of last year, though I was happy for it to stay, knowing that winter usage would be higher. This meant a small shortfall, so my DD payments have gone up (by too much, so after the next quarterly bill, I will request a payment reduction)0 -
