Could be a loose nut , could be a leak from the heat exchanger itself

  • Well it's not good. You definitely want to get a plumber out.

I'm sure it could be a number of things but the boiler in our house started to leak about a month after we moved in and it was a cracked main heat exchanger which was terminal. Boiler was nearly 20 years old though so not a bad innings.

    Make and model would help...
No, you need a GSR RGI. Plumbers are not qualified to work on gas boilers, although some can do both.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • thanks, I have boiler insurance luckily, just wondered if it could be something simple I could do.
It appears the water is coming from way up inside the thing :(
    It's a vaillant, about 10 years old.

wow, hope I don't need a new one...

  • Might just be the air vent broken - I have a valliant and that was what was wrong on mine. You can just tighten it up to check - but you can't leave it tightened as its meant to remove any build up of air. Mine was just above the pump.
  • well ,engineer coming sometime tomorrow. So, no heating or hot water until then. :(
