Morning
I had my eyes tested at Boots a couple of weeks ago, started being unable to read labels and small writing.
Had the test was told I had a small prescription for reading, then left with a lady who was supposed to help me pick some glasses, she didn't, I finally found a pair of Ray bans I liked, told her because I mainly read on holiday they would be great tinted and I wouldn't need another pair of sunglasses..... for the princely sum of £300 I ordered them, when being called in to pick them up, I put them on and was nearly sick when I looked around, it had not been explained to me that I could only read and not look around, they offered to put a varifocal in, I have tried several times to wear them but get an awful headache when I do.
Do I have any rights for a refund or do I have to keep the glasses.
many thanks
sam

I'm not trying to be funny but you went in for reading glasses, you were tested for reading glasses and you were prescribed reading glasses.
As reading glasses are designed to be worn for close up work (reading) they will ensure that your eyes focus at this close up distance so why would you expect them to be suitable for "looking around"?
Boots were correct in offering varifocals as these will provide close up and distance correction but they will take a bit of getting used to.0 -

If your glasses were prescribed for reading, then they are not for all day use. You have no rights for a refund as they have sold you what you needed - reading glasses.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Before this did you wear glasses for normal (i.e. not close up) use? If so then you'll still need those for everything other than reading, or you need to switch to varifocals, although that wouldn't be my choice. If you want tinted glasses for everyday use then you'll need to get new lenses or have the old ones tinted.0

Bl00dy hell! I buy my reading glasses from Poundland - for the princely sum of £1 per pair. They work just fine for me (although aren't as stylish as Ray Bans I'm sure).0

If you have a refund how does that help the reading?
You still need either a reading pair / bifocal or varifocal.
I would not expect to be able to see distance through a reading pair - although a low power reading pair would only blur the distance very marginally anyway.0 -

Well, it might not help the reading, but the OP would be £300 better off.:)
OP - reading glasses are available online, from department stores, supermarkets, and just about everywhere for under £15. For close work, reading etc, I can see better removing distance contact lenses and using nothing. That's free!0 -
Ask for a refund on your eyes-I'm going to do the same.0

Reading glasses are for reading, not looking round. You need looking round glasses for that. If i look round in my reading glasses, i go blind. If i read in my looking round glasses, i go blind. I also have a pair of distance prescription sunglasses. I can't read in them though
