Installing new plug sockets

I'm planning on moving all my AV equipment under the stairs. The problem is that there's no power points under the stairs at the minute. I'll be getting an electrician in to install some new sockets, but I'm wondering how many sockets to put in. I need at least 10 plug points.

I'm guessing it's a better idea to install several double gang sockets rather than just a double gang with a 5-gang extension lead on each?

Where do you draw the line though? Having 6 double gang sockets seems a bit excessive!

The cost is installing the first socket. All additional in the same location will be minimal cost. Better to er on the higher side in my opinion.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!
  • Make sure they are spaced out properly though places I have been and they are stacked on top of each other and then you can't get that funny DC PSU in because the kettle lead above is in the way.

I run as many double sockets as you need as it'll be much safer.

'Id put a couple of doubles in and run everything else from 1 to 4 leads, computer stuff doesn't take much power so you won't be overloading them. Just a feeling that having 10-12 plug sockets close together under the stairs might be thought a bit 'weird' if you ever try to sell your house.

as long as they are not too obtrusive, no future buyer will care imo.

We had our place rewired last year and put 3 doubles in our AV corner.... needless to say it wasn't enough and we also had to have an extension cable - peed me right off!

We're now building an extension and i told the spark to put 4 doubles in one corner, 2 doubles close by and another 3 doubles in various locations - he thought i was a bit mad, but i don't want to be hanging extension cables off the wall when i've just spent 40 grand on the place...

AV equipment uses a lot of power if it's decent kit so the more sockets the better in my book.
