Removing sick from carpet

Not a very lovely question but here goes......
On Saturday evening my partner wasn't feeling well and didn't quite make it to the bathroom and was sick on my cream carpet!

So far I've used warm water and washing up liquid and bicarb of soda but its still stained.
I was thinking of hiring one of those Rug Doctor carpet cleaners, before I spend money are these any good? Will it remove sick stains?
Failing that any other suggestions?

I would try a cleaning solution designed for pets. You can get them in a local pet shop or online. They're better at removing biological stains ie pee, poop, vomit, which most household products will struggle to remove. I've read about it before. It's something to do with the proteins this type of 'mess' contains.
Another good thing is laundry detergent with warm water. Avoid non-bio, it'll be useless. Give the area a really good soaking with it. It may take more than one go.
I know some carpets are too delicate for this and might be damaged so it would be worth checking first.0 -
Biological detergent as the first port of call.Loving the sunny days!0

Rug Doctors are actually really good but do use a pet urine cleaning product first to really soak the area.0

We used this recently when our son was sick on a light brown carpet in his bedroom.

had to use it a few times but eventually after letting it dry and vaccuuming the carpet the stain has gone. Didnt get it from that company, just an example of what it is.0 -
I've found rug doctor machines to be a bit useless in the past. I think that's because people hire them from a supermarket then return them and no-one ever really services them in-between hires. You would be better to go to a tool hire company to hire one. Have a look at the hydromist compact machine instead: http://www.carpetcleaner-hire.co.uk/commercial.html - it's the same sort of machine as a rug doctor (with a powered brush) and has the same attachments etc.
Other than hiring a machine yourself, you could get a professional carpet cleaning company to come in, but for such a small spot to clean this might be quite an expensive option!
I used to have cream carpets. I feel your pain!0 -
use cold water not hot

I used Vanish oxi action carpet spray when my husband was sick on our cream carpet after a drunken night out - it removed the stain.
I won't say what I used on my husband.0 -

Haha! We are moving house in the near future and it has wood flooring throughout the downstairs, I cant wait!
It has carpet upstairs, seriously considering replacing that with wood flooring too0 -
I would avoid biological detergent. We used it once on a carpet after a dog was ill on it, and it ended up bleaching the colour out of the carpet as well. We then tried a professional carpet cleaner, and in the end we ripped up the carpet and put a wooden floor down0
