Apologies for using incorrect platform, just tried the nearest to 'professional subscriptions'.
Re tax code - I get issued with a different tax code each year depending on what the supscriptions are. (They vary by about 5% either way, each year.) This makes my take home pay about £200 more when compared with the standard tax code tax paid.
I filled the child tax credit form myself with my subscriptions taken off and put this figure in the income box. But they took absolutely forever to reply to me, despite umpteen phonecalls. Until one guy said - 'the income you've written does not match what your emplyer says it is'.
I explained this was because of the allowable professional subscriptions. He said 'you get that back in your tax code'. I gave in and let them take my employer's income, thinking they were correct. But thinking about it afterwards, I think they're incorrect.
Thought I'd air my thoughts here, before I told them this.
  • And what do you think now having looked at the TC600?

Yes, it states clearly that I can deduct these subscriptions. But I was going round + round in circles with the tax credits helpline and just wanted it over and done with so said 'ok you win'. I believed what the guy on the other end of the phone said, when I should've stuck to my guns.
  • I would hazard a guess that you are confusing matters by bringing your salary into this.

Your salary should reflect your P60 and the subscriptions are a separate deduction.

Guess you need to go back to tax credits about this.
