How to cope with night shifts and next door's (very big) extension.

Mind you my OH tends to hoover naked
Isn't this the source of many an unfortunate "accident" that A&E see regularly?!
OP; I'd pop a polite note through the door saying you're not objecting to the extension but if you could have a rough idea of the expected timescale that would be really helpful due to your shift patterns. Also invite them round for a cuppa. It might be fun to have a nosy at their extension when it's finished....They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
OP - no suggestions for you but just to say THANK YOU for doing the job you do and working unsociable hours caring for people. My hubby has been in hospital twice with serious illness and I'm so grateful to the staff we've had on his wards. Even when patients and relatives don't show it or say it, they'll always be grateful to you and still think about you later.0

Noise from building sites is covered by the Control of Pollution Act 1974 whereby local authorities can serve a notice imposing requirements as to how the construction works should be carried out to minimise noise and nuisance.
Generally speaking, this means works are permitted 8am-6pm Mon-Fri, 8am-1pm Sat, and at no time on Sundays or bank holidays.
Your choice of profession and the working hours that profession entails are hardly within the control of your neighbours, and playing the 'NHS worker martyrdom' card cuts no more ice than complaining about the drilling when you've got a massive hangover if next door are acting within the law.
It might be un-neighbourly, but frankly, you're just going to have to suck it up.0
