Travel Insurance

Could someone please point me in the direction of a reputable travel insurance company. Medical insurance not needed, just cancellation etc.?

Thanks in advance

  • Why would you think medical insurance isn't needed?
  • Why would anyone want to exclude medical insurance. It's the most important thing covered by an insurance policy IMO.

I assumed the OP meant no cover for an existing condition needed?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Perhaps, but surely they'd have said no pre -existing conditions to insure, or no medical conditions to declare, not medical insurance not needed, just cancellation etc?

Hopefully the OP will come back and clarify.

I wondered the same thing, the only sensible explanation I could think of was that the holiday to be covered is in the UK (in which case of course this would be the wrong board to ask on).

Thanks everyone but don't shoot the messanger! I'm asking on behalf of one of my carers. She has a medical history that is bumping her insurance up to astronomical amounts even though she has been problem free for over 2 years, we were discussing travel insurance and the possibility of cover without Medical. She has managed booked a flight to stay with friends in their villages in Portugal, holiday total £300, cheapest insurance £996.... Her choice.

Medical reasons are by far the most likely cause for a claim. Others, such as theft or lost luggage are on the whole less expensive risks if you go without insurance.
How many insurers has she tried? She might find some that exclude things related to her past medical history, but still come up with an affordable policy. We've used BUPA travel insurance for many years, have claimed a couple of times, with absolutely no problems at all. We both have medical conditions which are either excluded or accepted at no indicated extra cost. They're not the cheapest provider, but annual Worldwide cover is less than £200 for us.

She mentioned using comparison sites and making a couple of calls but I don't have details, I will get her to have a look at BUPA.

Comparison sites are terrible for people with existing conditions. When I bought mine in November the quotes were coming in at several hundred. I ended up paying just over a hundred for a annual policy with longer stays.

I'm afraid the only way I've found of getting reasonable priced cover is to get a list of all insurers and work through until you get a price you're happy to pay.
