Email disappeared ? virus

I hope I'm concerned unnecessarily and I'll be glad of any advice, please. The normal 'sound' came on my tablet indicating an incoming email. I recognized the name of the sender - someone I had not been in contact with for a few years.
When I clicked on the email to open it, it looked strange and there was an attachment. I did not click on or open the attachment - but the whole email disappeared. It is not in my deleted box and is not in my spam folder. I don't know where it went.
I ran my AVG scan and Malwarebytes scan and nothing was picked up but I'm just concerned because I don't know where the email went. I don't keep in touch with the person the email looked to have come from. Should I be concerned about this and change my passwords etc?
Thanks for any help.
UPDATE at 0600 hours - I've been searching (since first posting this morning!) and I eventually managed to find the email by logging into my email through Webmail. I found it there and deleted it. It was the person I know's name and when I hovered over it it was not from the email address I would have expected - instead it was from '@wind-h.net.' I feel better having deleted it but still wonder if it was a virus - or if the person's email address book has been 'hacked.' If anyone has any opinion I'll be pleased to hear because I found it quite worrying that, in the first instance on my tablet, I did not delete the email - it just seemed to disappear.
Thank you all. (I hope to catch up on a bit of sleep now.)

It was probably some Phishing email that was detected and deleted by AVG0

Probably your friend's email has been hacked. I got one only yesterday from an old friend but the @address was completely bogus. Not sure why it should have disappeared from your email client but so long as you didn't click on any links in the email you should be fine.... I've had a few emails apparently from friends, but with weird domain names (one was of an independent diner in Utah!).
They address me using my first name and contain the first and last names of my friends. The only place where all of these people are associated with me (as far as I'm aware) is Facebook.
So... I reckon someone's friend list on Facebook has been hacked.0 -
Thanks everyone. Your replies are reassuring and very much appreciated.
