Hi,
We flew with Virgin from Gatwick. Pleasant flight and stayed at Memories Jibacoa which is a quieter resort about an hour from Havana. Okay if you are happy to use as a base for trips as very little in the area. This year we are heading to Varadero which is much livier but at least 2 hours from Havana. We are opting for the Iberostar Taino based on the tripadvisor reviews.A lot more to do in this resort but some would say it lacks the authentic cuban feel however that very much depends on what you decide to visit in the area."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0 -
Thank you for your reply russetred, very much appreciated0

OMG, I loved Cuba! we went Feb 2013 two weeks... we did a fly drive type holiday booked through All About Tailor-made Travel Ltd.
Our itinerary was this:
5 nights accommodation in a standard room on B&B basis at 5-star Iberostar Parque Central, Old Havana
Fantastic hotel, walking distance from all the tourist things, lovely pool on top of the hotel with great views, food was a bit pricey we used to pop out of hotel for lunch and dinner. the cabin crew use this hotel too
5 nights accommodation in a beach bungalow on All Inclusive basis at 3-star Costa Sur, Trinidad - Sancti Spiritus
This hotel was interesting! we had a bungalow which we could not fault, however the food was dire the pool I didn't dare go in, The beach amazing and the evening entertainmeant was interesting! had a power cut on the first night here. pretty standard for cuba!
4 nights accommodation in a standard room on All Inclusive basis at 4-star Blau Varadero
This after the other two hotels was a whole different ball game was creame de creame really lovely but after staying in in the other hotels we found it was too "boring" and could of been on any beach in any part of the world. Canadians love Varadero and it is tourist central smooth roads clean cut.
We saw Santa Clara where Che Guevara is buried. Ate where the locals ate a 3 course meal came too £2 each! Trinidad was like an old spanish influence town with "cowboys" riding horses around the town. We smoked a cigar in the cigar factory in Havana even though we don't smoke! drank fantastic mojitos I cannot drink them now they just do not taste the same! I feel in love with havana rum. Had people crossing the motorway as we was driving down it....
Cuba is by far the best holiday I've been on. The people are so friendly they have noting yet will go out of their way to help you.
I fully recommend getting in a car and driving around. It is safe, we were two females, one brunette and skinny other blonde with big boobs! Not once did we feel unsafe even when we was lost, there are no road signs in Cuba!!Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!0 -
