Will I benefit by updating from a speedtouch 585 modem router?

Hi.
As the title says.
I have a power line connected to it to use my pc in another room. Other than that it's phones, tablets and laptops connected wirelessly. I am on a "up to 8mb" connection connected at a little over 6mb.
Are there any benefits at all of getting an up to date modem router for the uses mentioned. I am only asking as its a really old unit now.
Thank you.

as your speed is so restricted (non fibre) the only improvement on a new router might be a stronger wi fi signal and the fact that it might be duel band , if you are happy with the wifi , leave it be

6mb is good for "up to 8mb" but can you get a better connection? Put your landline number in http://dslchecker.bt.com/ and see if ADSL2+ is available. If it is then you need to check the version number of the speedtouch...

In my days on ADSL I found that the Speedtouch 585 v6 was the best router for me - it consistently synced faster than the others I tried and very rarely ever dropped and resynced. If you swap it out you may well get better WiFi but could find that the ADSL performance is worse.

My advice - keep it. If you must have better WiFi buy an extender to go with it.

I don't think he'll be happy with two bands fighting it out to the death. Dual Band might be a safer bet. :D
