Still have a financial association & don't know why

About three years ago I registered with Experian after finding I kept being refused store cards. My credit rating was excellent but I had a financial association with my ex. I wrote to Experian and requested that they disassociate me with my ex, which I thought they had done. And then cancelled my subscription before the free month was up I had a look on mse earlier and registered with one of the free credit checks that mse suggested only to find another financial association. Me & my ex got back together for a year or so and he kept using my address without my permission is it likely he has taken out a loan without my knowledge. I certainly would not have taken out any type of credit with him as he was in debt and being chased by creditors. Firstly how do I find out what the financial association is and secondly how do I get rid of it?

Hi
There should only be a financial association on your credit file if there is also a joint account for credit or a bank account. You can file a notice of disassociation with the credit reference agency as you did before and they should investigate and remove it. I think you may need to file a notice of disassociation with each of the main three credit reference agencies– Experian, Equifax or Call Credit.
If your ex did use your name in a credit application the debt should be showing on your credit file held with at least one of the three agencies. You can always request a statutory copy of your credit file for £2 even if you’ve used a free trial previously.

Can anyone shed light on how the CRAs get away with not automatically disassociating people when joint accounts no longer exist? Even after six years they won't do it. Also, why do they permit illegal associations to be set up by utility companies?
It seems to me there's a need for some regulation here. Then again, they are effectively unregulated at the moment, so I won't be holding my breath.0
