How much is loaded on if you are in aviation as comercial pilot? I hope to be a pilot an couple of years if my training goes well. Are there any companies that don't load for this?

Does anyone have experience of trying to insure themselves after a serious diagnosis (in my case cancer)? I've got the all clear now and would like to up my life assurance as I am a single mum and have two dependent children.

For both these questions I would recommend getting advice and someone to do a loaded crawl for you. With regards to being an aviation pilot it shouldnt be too bad - you may just want to try getting a normal quote via Cavendish first.

As for term assurance with a cancer history - i suggest you use TQ onlines advisory service (it is detailed in the article)

you will only pay if you get a policy out. See how far they get you and report what you're being offered here and we'll see if we can help

    1. Is there a professional association for pilots? Ask them for advice.

    2. Have you been put in touch with any support groups or counsellors? Would they have experience of this sort of thing?

Pilot- if you mean just normal passenger airline, then not normally any problems - have placed with NU, Scot eq, Scot Prov, L&G in past no loading.

Cancer- talk to your GP as to the likely comments in a medical report. At the current low prices the major companies are cherry picking, and they do not want the hassle of "non standard" cases- sorry I know thats bad, but its true. As suggested some "help groups" have contact"

I have come across the odd small compny that may help - try http://www.pulse-insurance.co.uk

  • Hi I am an Independent Insurance Intermediary and have access to most of the Life, Critical Illness, Private Medical Cover, Income Protection etc providers. As long as I can do the business over the phone/fax/post/internet I can reburse 50% of the commission i.e on a £50 per month policy you would have up to £480 back. (not sure if this is OK with you Martin - tell me to get lost if you want but it is a genuine offer)

But if you can find the same through a 100% rebater (like Cavendish) it might only cost £25 instead of ~£480.

Would suggest that before making an such offer on BB you ask Martin first.

Also as it's your first (registered) post , perhaps obviously advertising for biz is not good form - why not answer a few queries first- share your knowledge  and who knows you might get a few contacts.

For long term low cost - execution only the likes of Cavendish are hard to beat for execution only life cover ( I also give rebates on life cover  but would not expect the readers of this BB to come via me, as I offer advice) - and I can not afford to under cut them on execution only.

With the life cover marketplace still unregulated its not hard to find a policy- and most brokers would give back 50% if no real work is involved.

Of course if the one requires a brokerage offering advice, rather than execution only -  and will  give a rebate then thats another story- Hope thats what you meant.

I recommend someone looking for advice - looks for a established brokerage , with a qualified broker - ensuring all areas are covered - considering things such as Trusts - perhaps with the terms of any offer clearly stated (clawbacks?) and an online quote engine helps.

Look for someone  with CeMAP  (mortgages) and FPC (financial advice)  qualifications
    - even if the product / regulation does not currently  demand it.
