DIY Sweet Table.

  • We're having a hog roast. I really hope we don't have any veggies coming!

So are we, and we do have veggies coming (5 at the present count, I think). I'm torn between getting our afternoon caterer to make something that can just be heated up for them in the evening, or paying the extra for salads to accompany the hogroast!
  • We actually worked out it was cheaper to buy a cart from eBay and the sweets after than hire a cart itself!
    Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£25
  • I'd checkout ebay. You can buy sweets in 3kg bags or boxes that you could put straight onto a table. I've even seen complete wedding packages where you can get everything delivered including vases. Try typing "sweets complete wedding package" into the search bar.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea

We do have sides with ours. Potatoes, rolls, bread, veg etc.
  • I did a DIY one - We asked our venue to lay out an extra table and bought cheap glass jars (Tesco Value biscuit jars at £1.20 a pop. We then just did a bit of hunting on Amazon for large bags of the sweets we wanted. Got a set of small silver scoops from ebay for a couple of quid and a load of paper bags in the right colours for our wedding from ebAY for a couple of quid too - Did the whole thing for around 250 guests for under £100 and got the glass jars back to resell/resuse too.
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
  • Surprised at the prices of £300-350, you can definitely do it yourself for significantly cheaper.

The venue we are looking at offer to provide this for £75.
  • I did ours for about £70 and this was only because we had a Harry Potter sweet theme :rotfl:I brought all the sweets from Makro (look in your local cash and carry stores). The scoops were brought very cheaply from eBay, as well as the paper bags.

We actually borrowed the jars from a friend who had used them for a sweet table at their wedding, but they were brought very cheaply from Ikea at around £1? in their sale. I didn't like the plastic lids so I glued lace and ribbon on in our wedding colours and then put chalkboard labels on the front.

I brought packs of 3 scoops 99p a pack and beautiful glass jars with lids at £1.99 each from HomeBargains and fishbowl s from £1land. Then buying sweets in bulk from our local food wholesaler bookers, but you can get sweets cheap in alot of cheaper shops and supermarkets. Ours is coming to £60 so definitely cheaper to do yourself and very easy to do. They also had sweet signs, bunting etc 79p in our local b&m x

  • £300 is criminal. Just after Halloween and around Christmas sweets become dirt cheap so you could buy loads then especially ones like Haribo (just check the best before dates). Also Supermarkets often have 3 for 2 offers on traditional sweets. You could use your points too.

Personally I'm going to provide already bagged sweets at my wedding. I'm buying some paper bags and will put a nice sticker to seal them. They'll be put in the gorgeous big basket I brought from a car boot sale (its amazing and has a lovely handle). This way everyone gets a decent bag full but the waste will be minimal. If there are any left over we'll give them to the staff as a thank you :)

I'm doing a sweet buffet for my son and daughter in law to be. I have picked up jars and vases cheaply when I have seen them. The wedding is in September but I have started buying sweets now, by buying some every week with our normal shopping don't notice the cost. Just make sure the dates are ok, if anyone had one at their wedding would love to see pics as still working on it.
    Many thanks x
