Overdraft protection fees - Reclaim

Hello, does anyone know who the insurance underwriters for Alliance & Leicester where?
I had an account with Alliance & Leicester that automatically became Santander (I think it was around 2008). As part of my old account there was a monthly debit charge for an Overdraft Protection Plan. This was only a small amount always debited at the same time each month but this charge carried over when Alliance & Leicester got bought out by Santander.
I tried to cancel the debit but was told that it was a mandatory charge. I have investigated this further and spoke to Santander who have now told me that they didn't recognize it as one of their charges and have now cancelled it, but I can't reclaim from them as it was from the Alliance & Leicester who had different underwriters.
Santander's current insurance underwriters Genworth say don't recognize the charge.
How can I reclaim 15 years worth of money when no one seems to know where it came from?
The information that Santander have about the monthly debit is very limited, they don't know who it's being paid to!
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi and welcome; I'd be interested to know this too.
Thanks for posting

You don't "reclaim" anything, you complain it was miss-sold with your reasons and evidence to support your complaint and see what they say. Simply having cover is not being miss-sold
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
