I know this sounds like a very basic question, but what paperwork will I actually get to keep once I have completed the house purchase. The Mortgage lender has the Title deeds, so do I get a copy? I am also wondering if I get to keep a copy of the conveyancing paperwork?
If someone could tell me what they actually got I would appreciate it
Many thanks

You should get some paperwork from your solicitor/conveyancer such as the searches and correspondence with the other side before you exchange.
You'll get a completion statement when you complete and a letter from your lender (if applicable) confirming the monthly payment, date when the fixed term ends, etc.0 -
I doubt your mortgage lender will have Title deeds - that ended several decades ago.
The 'title deeds' are held electronically by the Land Registry.
Assuming you are using a conveyancer, he should send you a copy of the LR title Registration, but this will only happen after the SDLT has been paid so a week or 3 after Completion. You should also get a receipt from HMRC for the SDLT.
You should already have copies of the searches, the lease (if leasehold), other relevant Conveyances (eg with covenants), and Enquiries etc. Hang onto these, or (I'd advise) ask your conveyancer to forward the originals to keep (safely!). The alternative is for the conveyancer to store them for you.
Correspondance with the seller/their conveyancer? You may well already have copies of much of it, but yes, you can ask for the originals (if your conveyancer does not forward as a matter of course).
With older properties, there may be other documents which no longer have any legal relevance, but these can be intersting or of historical interest. If so, I'd want to keep them.0 -
Nothing to hold on to re proof of ownership of the property as the details are held electronically as stated above - any future lender/buyer will check those details with us and not rely on any copies you may be holding for example.

Thanks for your information, it is appreciated. I guess I just feel out of my depth.
I do have one final query, the searches and much of the other paperwork etc seem to be on pro forma's, with the boxes filled in by hand. Is this normal? I would have expected something more formal!0 -

Totally normal.
You'll basically get sent everything the solicitor holds that's relevant to the property. Some houses might have a large bundle of pre-registration deeds and others you'll get very little.
It takes a while for your purchase to be registered, months sometimes if a new build or leasehold.
Please keep anything you get sent safe, although the land reg do scan all relevant docs occasionally a map might accidentally get scanned as black/white or a page missed, you can save a lot of hassle by keeping the docs you get sent.
You should also get a receipt from HMRC for the SDLT you don't tend to get this now unless there had actually been a problem paying for it.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

You'll get a big bill from the solicitor.
Realistically you will get a completion statement from the lender and a letter from your solicitor saying "congratulations, we'll finish it off by doing the land registry and stamp duty stuff etc". Both will arrive within a few days.
You won't get anything official to say you own the house. So start changing your addresses soon so you've got some proof of address.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
