I dislike cooked fennel but it's great in salads, finely sliced as above.
It goes well with a finely chopped orange in a leaf salad, especially with bitterish salad leaves (lolla rossa or chicory, for example). Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

That stuff is one of those things that many cannot abide, in addition to cucumber, melon, celery and coriander.
For some reason those items are off limits to people like me. There is a reason for it, something to do with genetics.
So as you may have guessed, I hate fennel and anything aniseedy so although I have nothing to add to the thread, sorry, I just got a shiver from the mention of fennel.
Carry on though, lol.0 -
I love fennel but if you prefer a milder taste cook it first.
Cut it into approx quarters, par-boil it for 5 mins then place in buttered dish. Dot with torn up mozzarella and bake in medium oven for approx 20 mins, yum.0 -

I don't like onions so use fennel quite often as an onion replacement, the texture is very similar to an onion but to me it tastes so much better.0

One of the nicest soups I've ever had was Broccoli, Leek and Fennel. I had it a few months ago as a starter in a pub/restaurant. I'd never tried fennel before but I didn't fancy any other starter and I reckoned I'd give it a try, as if I didn't like it I still had my main course to come.

No! Stop! Don't throw it in the bin. Put it in the compost bin!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
