Hi I have just sold a small speaker. Which method of posting is the best and cheapest way to send this. I have charged £8.90 for postage. Thanks

What postage method did you state in your listing?
Also, if you want postage details you will need to tell us more than it is 'a speaker'. Weight, insured value, size etc and confirmation as to whether it is UK mainland or not.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi soolin, haven't got it with me at the moment. But I put first class post. It's UK mainland, insured value £200. Just wondered if Royal Mail was the best option.0

The only Royal Mail service that will cover the £200 value is Special delivery.
1kg for £8.55
2kg £11
they are basic costs and assume the packed item is within RM size guidelines.
Standard 1st class post would only give up to £20 of cover.
EDIT: one word of warning, if you are on the cusp of a RM weight band Do not skimp on packaging. It is worth paying the extra weight cost and packing it to be completely safe from any damage. If item does arrive damaged RM will take into consideration how suitable the packaging was. For high value items I tend to double box.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for the advice, well send it special delivery and double box it.0

sorry just to add- the special delivery prices stated are just the 1st 2 bands- It is impossible to assist you without a proper packed weight and outer dimensions. Please do not assume I believe speakers are necessarily within those weights.
Just looking at the ones we use that my son left us they are over 2kg even before being boxed up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Where did you get the £8.90 postage quote from?
As has been said, it's impossible to quote you the cheapest method without dimensions/weight. You should always find out the postage before you list and list with the correct method. First Class post to most people means exactly that, Royal Mail 1st Class.
For future reference it may help to have a read of some of the sticky posts. First and second class only cover to £20. This can be enhanced with Signed For which goes up to £50 and Special Delivery starts at £500 compensation. As with most carriers, some items are prohibited or restricted.
A courier may be a cheaper option but as you've stipulated First Class that's really how you should send it, unless you email the buyer if you find a cheaper method and give them the discount?
Have a read of the postage sticky to ensure you are covered in case the buyer claims they don't receive the item.0 -
Hi
I got the amount from when I was listing. The sum is what ebay reckons it would be. I don't mind paying more as the bidding went over the amount I thought I would get anyway.0 -

Ebay doesn't have any grip on reality, certainly not where costs are concerned. Next time, you will be best to weigh and measure and compare prices.0 -
Oh that does surprise me. I've only sent smaller items throught the post before. My very first sale "got lost", so I learned to get items signed for. Now I've learnt something else. Thank you.0
