You need to tell us how long you want to save or invest it and what your attitude to risk is. Would you be prepared to risk losing some of it in the hope of getting good returns ?

That is much too short a timeframe to mess with shares ( 5 years minimum) . Stick it all in hi interest savings accounts (Sainsburies, ICESAVE, ICICI etc) and a cash ISA.

Or on failing that I have a GUARANTEED system that'll win on roulette! Seriously! Nothing like it has ever been seen before! Obviously, I COULD be rich if I just stuck to the system myself - but I'm a caring sharing guy.

    Give it to me. ;)

  • If your lazy - buy some good funds into a mini isa at 4K a year. The rest in good savings accounts. discount broker - https://www.h-l.co.uk

If your not lazy, research the stock market and pick companies that are either just starting or undervalued that you believe will have a strong future. - this is probably the most profitable thing you could do.

Provided you're willing to either accept the risk of some capital loss or willing to leave the money invested during a recovery, investing in equities via your stocks and shares allowance is one option. You aren't tied in but you do risk a loss if you're forced to sell during a downturn, so it's best for money where you can start rearranging it into less volatile investments with a few years notice. The shorter your notice, the greater the risk involved. If you're not expecting to use the money for a few years this is likely to give you better returns than savings accounts. Money beyond the ISA limit can go into unit trusts and OEICs held outside the ISA and they can be transferred in later years.

High interest savings accounts including regular saver accounts are options that don't run a risk of capital loss but overall they don't stay far ahead of inflation.
