My 14 year old son has been charged £23.80 for a FREE trial from a company called DONNAPLAY.COM (which is an online video/media/books site). He apparently accessed the site when watching YouTube videos and was redirected.
Initially he denied any knowledge of the transactions. It became apparent that this was an ongoing payment of £9.95 per month.
He (naively) didn't realise that he would be charged when he entered his debit card number upon registering with donnaplay.com back in November. Luckily we've found out the full extent of the situation when we were checking his online bank statement and have cancelled the donnaplay account. I've been in touch with donnaplay.com and they have instigated refunds for the 2 £9.95 payments which were paid after the 5 day free trial. Initially, they only refunded one month and I had to request a further refund. It would appear, searching online, that we are not the first to be caught out. Oh, and the refund for debit cards takes 21 business days to complete.
Cautionary tale for anyone with teenage children. One very tired and harassed mother.
