Does anyone know about contact lenses that you can wear for a whole week or month? How safe are they? Has anyone done any research? Anyone wears them?

I've worn them for years & think they are fantastic. I get the specsavers monthly extended wear lenses & replace them monthly.0

Are you concerned about hypoxia and the cornea alterations that occur with contact lenses use, especially of such extensive usage?0
-
No, in not worried. I have regular check ups with the optician & I'm confident of the high level of care I get from them.0

Does your optician check your cornea epithelium?0

risk of keratitis 4x greater with overnight lens wear.
More convenient but worth the risk?0 -

Are we sure we are talking about the latest Aqua Day and Night?
Maybe the weekly don't have that much risk?
I don't want to have to clean my lenses every day, so I have to go with daily disposable? are there any other options?0 -
Extended wear are perfectly safe if you follow the recommendations of your optician.
Lenses-contact.co.uk has the best price on Air Optix Night & Day Aqua - £30.200 -
Nothing is ever 100% safe I even if you follow professional advice their is a signficant increase in risk with overnight wear of about 4x irrespective of modualrity.
Most optometrists do not push overnight wear these days due to the increaed number of cases of keratitis seen.0 -
Be careful with this; I still remember the panic in my dad's face when he realised his monthly contact lenses had welded themselves to his eyes and that he couldn't get them out. He's had them in for 3 days and had slept in them.
At A&E they told him this happens quite a lot. The whole experience meant my dad who had previously worn contact lenses for 20 years without an issue, now will not wear them.0 -
I have worn monthly ones for 14 years with no problems. I take them out at the end of the month, sleep blind for a night and put a fresh pair in next morning. Sadly B&L have stopped making mine and their new version are awful for me - gave me vertigo when I tried them. I can still get the old ones online but eventually that supply will cease and I will have to find some others.
My optician does say that I am her most problem free extended wear patient.
I don't wear eye makeup (any makeup really) which probably helpsI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
