Can a retailer sell free gifts

Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows if shops are allowed to sell items that were previously given as free gifts? I bought a few things in Rituals cosmetics today so was happy with my purchases until I got home & seen one of the gift sets maked as free gift on the outside of the box, no wonder the box was sold open as if I'd of noticed that on the closed box i probably wouldnt of bought the set as feel it's being cheated, I do have the receipt but just wanted to check if anyone has came across this before, Rituals has quickly went from my favourite shop to my not so impressed shop.

Yes they can. Why would you not have bought it had you known it was previously a free gift? You were happy to pay £x amount for it, and obviously wanted/needed it, so there's no reason to feel cheated.
Don't let it bother you, and enjoy your purchases.0 -
It is possible that it has been sold with its own value but also used as a free gift if a much more expensive item was purchased.0
