Merryn Somerset Webb Is the editor of our favourite comic Moneyweek, which has been calling a property price crash as imminent since 2009.
Note that MSW bought in Edinburgh in that year, and has evidently bought an investment property in London since that time.
A case of do as I say, not as I do.0 -

You've got to be a bit of a plum to buy a property which you think will substantially lose its value quickly and publically advertises this in a international newspaper.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0 -

Or somebody chasing ratings for their own publication.
They love her over on MPC, almost as much as they love Max Keiser, which says a lot for her credibility.0 -

I know this may sound terribly quaint and old fashioned. But maybe she has just bought the place in London because she needs a permanent base in London for her job.
Yes - she has actually bought property because she wants to live in it. How very 1980s!0 -

Even FT writers who think house prices are going to go down, still press ahead with buying property ...

She works in London several days a week and stays in this flat. She can hardly commute daily from Edinburgh.
She owns it to use it and doesn't have to worry about a landlord evicting her and her furniture every six months. Odd that - she buys a flat to sleep in it!0 -

She stills moan about the price and size, despite the fact she has been able to buy a second home in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Oh the shame of a middle class professional having to slum it in a property where the kitchen doubles up as a living room.0 -

I don't feel there is any shame in studios, but it's a bit annoying going to bed at 6 if your partner has a headache, they can be very hot especially if you've just cooked your dinner (don't say open the window, you won't sleep in many parts of central London) and even the fridge clicking on and off can keep you awake if you're not a heavy sleeper.
I wouldn't like to do it long term. I'd prefer a serviced apartment or hotel if it's only a few nights a week.0
