Filling large and deep hole in a brick wall

Hi All,

I have a large hole 10 cm wide, 10 cm high and 5 cm deep in my brick wall and I would like to know what is the best way to fill it. Once it is filled I would like to be able to drill holes in it so that I can hang items on it.

Thanks

    so should I just add a small brick and seal it? If that is the case what product should I use to seal the brick to the wall?

    Mortar - seeing as that's what is used when building brick walls. All the DIY stores will sell small 2.5 or 5 kg bags of mortar mix (sand & cement) for you just add water & mix.

    After it sets then repair plaster, likewise you can get small bags of "patching" plaster to just add water, or even tubs of ready-mixed....

    There's even a handy video, bigger hole than you but the same principle applies...;

    Why is the hole there, and what is behind it?

    If brick is missing (an actual hole, not just missing plaster) then replace with brick using mortar to adhere to surrounding bricks, then when properly set you can plaster over the surface.

    If just the plaster missing then re-plaster the "hole".

    It is not plaster coming off but an actual hole maybe created when the windows were installed. It is not big enough to fill a whole brick so I will have to break a brick into smaller parts and seal it with mortar. Subsequently I will plaster around it

    Just to confirm Pino79 take a small piece of brick, slightly smaller the the hole and make sure it does not protrude from the wall. Make up a some mortar and chuck a small amount of it in the hole so it coats the back and sides of the hole. Take your off-cut brick and coat it with the mortar as well and the fit it inside the hole. Some excess mortar will ooze out so just scrape this off.

    Hi All,

    I found this product "Blue Hawk Sand and Cement Mortar Mix Bucket - 5kg 260801" from Homebase.

    Could you please let me know whether this is ok for my project?

    Thanks a lot
