O/S Daily Thread for Saturday 23rd January 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

  • Morning all
Hubby is off to work in a sec, we are just having a cuppa and then I'll do breakfast.
DGS is still asleep, he can stay in bed if he wants when I drop hubby off as he is now 11 years old.
Hubby has a meeting next week with the solicitors about MIL's will, whilst we were all sat round her death bed, BIL was at his solicitors with his version of the will. He was then advised there was another one that was official.
I'm not sure what DGS wants to do today or what time he want's to go home, some I've nothing planned, it's up to him.
Time I fed the fish, they are glaring at me from the tank.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all, Hester I know it is not my place to say it but you BIL sounds like an evil tw*t.

I have been up since 4 as I had nightmares, trying to go back to sleep just made the dream resume so I got up. Have achieved more or less nothing since ten. DS returned from a night out and has been fed bacon sandwich.

Him indoors still sleeping and he will go shopping when he wakes up. I bet I have left stuff off his list. Doesn't matter since my view is that the world is full of shops and I can visit them and get what I forgot.

Today I need to clean windows and not too much else.

My visit to the dentist is going to result in huge expense, fillings, a crown and a mouth guard, apparently I am grinding my teeth down to stumps probably when asleep. This will be a good look. Ancient pjs, hair all over the place and a contraption in my mouth, he also suggested wearing it sometimes in the day but I think that can only be when I am working at home as I am really not convinced that this is the right professional look.

I might have a small sleep later.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off - I managed to have a bit of a lie-in, most unusual for me.

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Now getting light, sky is different shades of pink and orange, so rain could be on the cards at some point, certainly seems warmer, but still damp underfoot, hoping we don't get such a miserable day as yesterday, once the rain started (which lasted most of the day) it was just so dark, windy and cold, hope today is not the same.

Dinner last night was a bit disjointed, DH rang in the middle of the afternoon and said he'd got so wet and cold he'd bought fish and chips lunchtime, so wouldn't want any dinner, so once boys were home I cooked our dinner and we ate early at about 5pm ish. Boys had chicken and ham kievs, chips, beans/veg, I had the LO veg tart and salad. I have planned today's meals too, lunch is going to be breaded chicken pieces and salad in baguettes, then dinner tonight is going to be jacket potatoes, gammon ham, pork pie, boiled egg, cheese, salad, and HM coleslaw, tomorrow's lunch will be roast chicken with all the normal trimmings - I do normally plan the weekday dinners, but very often don't the weekends that well, this is where we fall down and end up with a takeaway - which is always expensive. Checked out the prices more closely in A**i for their meat - as I've not bought it for a while and some of it I don't like, but I've been getting the 3 for £10 deal at MrM's quality is always good but I don't always need all 3 so checked out prices if I needed to buy 3 items what the cost would be, and it's still cheaper to buy at A**i seperately, so unless I specifically want something from MrM's I'll start buying in A**i, the odd bits I want I'll get from either MrM's or the butchers.

Got the jobs done yesterday that I wanted, both boys beds stripped and left them the fresh bed linen to put on. I'll continue with what washing there is, think there's enough for a dark load - which is school/work uniforms, will get that going this morning. I'll be heading to town shortly to visit the bank, then we need to visit the caravan and buy some toilet chemicals, I'm sure we've got some new bottles in the loft but both boys say they can't find it - but DH and myself know we bought some in bulk with a friend halved the order and cost and it's different to what we normally use and we don't remember using it, so will just buy some to get us through this weekend, we're not away again then until March. Hoping by then the work situation will at least be a bit clearer.

Now going to get a shower and then some brekkie before heading out.

    Have good Saturdays' everyone x

  • Morning all. Thanks HESTER for starting us off. The nightmare with the BIL is never ending. I hope the meeting with the solicitor this week sees an end to it and shuts him up once and for all.

No rain forecast for us until evening and we have the makings of a nice day out there. I want to wash our bedding when Mr TA gets up but can't see it drying outside until the sun can get above the trees and conifers that surround our back garden. (Thoughtless neighbours!) So it will be draped around upstairs again I suppose.

I have a Boots order to collect today, otherwise I would be avoiding town. Whilst I'm down I may as well make the best of it and poke my nose in a few of the sales that are still ongoing! Even sales don't tempt shoppers in these days like they used to.

Just been getting some meat out to defrost to put in the big dual SC overnight. A big batch of diced beef which I will put back in the freezer in portion sized tubs and two of the lovely lean braising steaks Ald* were doing as a special this week. That will be tomorrow's lunch with creamy mash and a few veg. Hope they are as nice as they look!

No DGDs to mind this weekend. DD is working and they are all at their dads. His partner is so good with them so they are in good hands!

Have a good Saturday if you can (((((HUGS))))) all round and take care xx

Morning all. Not such a great start to the day. Youngest dd has had diarrhoea and never made it to the toilet in time so I've had to clean the floor. Not pleasant. I've put the soiled stuff in the wash and made an extra strong coffee. All upstairs windows are open as well so it's a good job the temperature has risen slightly! Fingers crossed it's a 24 hour thing that won't pass on to everyone else

We were planning on going out this morning but that isn't going to happen now so may have to think of some games inside to keep youngest ds entertained.

On the cleaning front, the hallways and landings need a good going over (more so now) with bannisters washed down, book cases and shelves polished, I will put some neutradol down on the carpet before I vacuum. Just need the zoflora mix to dry first though. I'm making milk rolls so the bm is on the go, mixing up the dough for me and there's a Spanish pork in the sc for tonight's tea.

Have a good day all :)

    Morning everyone,

Another here who has had a lie-in, OH couldn't sleep so was up early and took the girls out.

Tea last night was Mr Sparks burgers and have to say they were delic, especially with cheese melted on top. Had £20 worth of vouchers from doing surveys so stocked up on meat and fish, am sticking to the more vegetarian and fish meal plan, last night was the first time we had ate meat since last Sunday. Certainly feel better for it and finding it relatively easy.

Not loads to do today, bed will need stripping and the towels are to be changed but other than that the time is all mine, yesterday was foul weather wise so will need to get Bill horse out and about.

Have a good day everyone, AOD hope you manage a nice restful nap x

    Morning everyone.

Despite my very late night and wine soaked state I'm awake and alert.

My friend was up two hours ago and has taken number one son to swimming training whilst her husband is just about to set off with number two son for a park run! I shall wait until they've gone before I get up and shower.

We're all to Newcastle later this morning to meet up with others for our Christmas lunch. And it's not raining here.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

    Merry Christmas Gers!
HH - hopefully the Solicitor will sort BIL out.
LaineyT - Well done on the job interview.
dumpling - Fantastic! Hope you can manage to visit the hotel a few times, then you will be very familiar with it in time for the wedding.

    Morning All

Quite a bright sky this morning but rain doesn't look too far away, much milder though.

The washing is on the airer, may finish it off in the dryer later just to soften up the towels. Didn't do any housework last night so will crack on with that in a minute, must go out and buy some birthday cards for this afternoon - got the gifts sorted but forgot the cards!

Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX
  • Good Morning chums bright and sunny here in Kent but still a bit on the nippy side.I am going for a small food shop this morning probably less than a tenner as its mainly fruit and veg. This afternoon I shall be feet up knitting in hand probably watching a movie that I have in store on my TiVo box

Saturday is definitely going to be 'please myself day' again as I enjoyed it so much last week.No cleaning or housekeeping just full-on pottering mode for me :):):)
Have a great day what ever you are doing

I had planned to get up early and cook breakfast for the two dds that are staying over but no signs of them.

Went downstairs with bedding to be washed, turned off burglar alarm and made myself a coffee. have just come back upstairs and had a nice long shower and washed my hair and looked out an outfit.

Breakfast will be whatever anyone fancies and I have a large home made cottage pie for lunch hoping to have a few portions to freeze.

Lots of bedding to wash and clean laundry to sort out later but just want to enjoy dds company while they are here.

    Hester

There are no words for your BIL  (well there are several olde anglo saxon ones that would be apt but we are too laydee like to use them.)

    Hugs to all
