recently installed free version of AVG virus scan. Problem is that it is runnung a check every day and no matter what time I schedule it for, it slows the PC down enormously whilst its scanning. I've tried setting it for the middle of the night, but because I'm not online then, it just scans when I first switch on. Do I need to scan every day, ? With mu old Norton, it was once a week. There is no way to alter the schedule , it is programmed for daily checks, I can only alter the time of the check. Can anyone help?

Simply switch off the scheduled scanning and scan when you want to. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hi
I too sometimes suffer AVG slowing everything down. If you right click the icon in the tray bottom right, you can cancel the scanning. I reactivate the scanning when I go to make a cup of tea. Still a good idea to have it done daily if possible.
Cheers;)0 -

Hi,
you don't need to be online to run a scan, but you must have computer switched on, just go into Schedular, highlight Test and Edit Schedule to a time that suits you. See post No.4.
If it's running on start up you must have both boxes ticked.0 -
When installing the current version of AVG, there is an installation option to perform scan at a "lower priority" so as not to clog up your PC's performance. I cannot find such an option AFTER installing it. Anyway I chose this option and get no real performance issues on 2 different machines (with periodic scan enabled).0
