Letter from Gladstones Solicitors, Knutsford

Just received a letter though from Gladstones Solicitors stating I've previously been written to by their client "Millennium Door & Event Security Ltd" about a parking fine and that I need to pay £125 within 14 days or their client may instruct them to take legal action.

This is absolutely the first I'm hearing about this. I have no idea where or when the parking offence took place??

What do I do?

You can ignore it as this isn't a proper letter before action.

(If you do get a proper letter before legal action then write and tell them what you have told us and take it from their reply)

What does a "letter before action" look like?

It will be clear it is the last chance to pay up by a certain date before action will be commenced against you.

Not so sure that Gladstones are competent enough to care about proper letter before action. They have zero credibility, and according to the prankster blogs, very little legal competence. The next thing you get may well be a court claim.

My advice would be to head this off and write to them

    Dear Gladstones,
    Re your letter of xxx
I have had no previous correspondence regarding this issue. Your client is therefore in error. If you believe otherwise, please send me copies of all correspondence your client alleges has been sent and I will then reply within 14 days.

"We have an Appeals & Complaints Procedure in place and further more should the appellant not be satisfied with the response from our appeals department, we provide the contact information for the British Parking Association (BPA) along with the Parking On Private Land Appeals (POPLA) body who will review the decision independently. We are approved by the British Parking Association and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. "

Not so sure that Gladstones are competent enough ... They have zero credibility

    As much as that?

Shows how much they care about their image then. They have been members of the Red Cow Yard gang since November, Hence the letter from Gladstones.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

The OP needs to be careful as it completely depends on the letter as to whether this is Gladstones as a debt collector or Gladstones purportedly full LBCCC and there is a subtle difference which not enough information has been provided here to evaluate.

According to the Mil' group web site -

    Appeals procedure:

Offenders should note before making an appeal that all vehicles are photographed by a digital camera, which is date and time stamped showing the offense committed.

So, the first opening gambit from them is to refer to members of the public who have received one of the 'speculative invoices' as 'Offenders'. Doesn't that give you a warm glow...

And we all know what they can do with their date and time stamped cameras - besides the obvious !!!! :D
