Help with carers allowance

Hi.. I am hoping that some of you kind and clever people can help me with this.I currently work 30hrs per week and earn 9.10 per hour before any deductions.
My husband is terminally ill and I want to drop my hours so that I can claim carers allowance but still retain my job.
my normal salary 30hrs per week is
paye - 47.40
NI - 51.95
Pension - 66.45
unison - 9.70
staff lottery - 2.00

Take home after deductions 1009.17

I need to know how many hours I would have to drop down to to take me to the carers thresh hold of earning 110.00 per week after deductions. thank you very much for your help.

Your deductions would fall as you reduce your hours, you need to have a look on google to find out what deductions are allowable and work it out from there, I'm sure the £2 lottery wouldn't be -)
  • You can earn £110 a week before you loose carers allowance, you can deduct half your pension.

If you work for 8 hours a week you earn 8x9.10 = 72.80

Half your pension counts so your income for CA is 106.02 ( 72.80 + 33.22)

If you earn below £155 per week you won't pay NIC.

iF you income is less than £204 per week you won't pay any income tax.

So your total weekly income is £106.62 + 33.23 other half of pension.
  • so does that mean I can only work 8 hours per week?
you will have to bear with me Im not very good with mathematical stuff!!:)

12 hours would pay £109.20 but 1/2 of the pension payment is also counted as income

    £109.20 +£ 33 = £142.20 which is more than £110

What puzzles me is why people are adding the pension payment to the gross income, to work out net income.

Does 'half the pension payment counting as income' not mean that you can only use half the pension contribution as a deduction, so the other half is counted as income earned (which is already included in the hourly rate X hours worked) ?

Eg 10 hours at £9.10 less half of £66.45 ie £91-£33.22=£57.88

15 hours at £9.10 less half of £66.45 ie £136.50-£33.22=£103.28
