Was it your fault that he entered the bus lane? If not, then it's not your responsibility to pay the fine.

The chances are that the bus lane is incorrectly signed, painted or laid out. He should be challenging the ticket.

Bradford council tried to fine me when I genuinely had no way of knowing that the left turn was for buses only - no signage between the junction I entered on and the bus lane. They then highlighted (without even realising it) that the painted arrows were of absolutely no benefit to car, man or beast when they challenged my objection. They then retracted their fine.
    Thanks in advance,

  • I’m surprised by the number of people who say the OP is wholly responsible. This is akin to being snapped by a speeding camera – would they all suggest the two passengers should split the points between them because they were all going to the same party?

Your brother was the driver, and it was his error, therefore his fine. The only exception is where the passenger is giving directions and they directed the driver into a bus lane.

100% right. well said (I'd have said the same, except in less diplomatic language!)
