Does anyone use Gocardless ??

Hi , just after some feedback , does anyone use gocardless to collect direct debits from customers ?
I've recently started offering payment plans to my customers , and all seems to be going well .
The concern I have is a bad experience I had with worldpay zinc who actually closed my account for no stated reason (a while back)
It caused me a load of problems at the time , but no great monetary losses .
I'm a little concerned that I could have 20 + customers who all owe me say for example £200 each in total , if my account were to run into any problems , I would lose all this money as it would be very hard to claw it back .
I have read loads of good reviews from small businesses and so on , but just wondering if anyone has had the rug pulled from under them?
From what I can see there is no way to insure your losses if it ever goes wrong ?

  • I used to run a web hosting business with a friend, he took it over as I wanted to move on to other things, but he now uses GoCardless to collect most of his payments and seems to get on quite well with it.

I get the feeling that GoCardless are kind of a new breed of payment provider. Their fees are very reasonable and they pay each transaction directly into your bank in a few days, so there's not much risk of you not receiving the payments. Unlike some of the card payment providers who hold a huge balance of received payments and take ages to give you any of it. I'm not surprised you had problems with Worldpay, I used them to set up an online shop for someone and they were a nightmare to deal with.

Thanks for the reply Robster , so does he ,
or does he not get on with the system ?
I think you may have made a typo there ? I don't use them for card payments , just direct debits from my clients to myself .
It's bothering me a little as I could have a few grand outstanding , with no kind of agreement or contract from gocardless , so if they ever decide to withdraw service I would be screwed , and yes worldpay were shocking , that's actually an understatement .
  • Oh, sorry if what I typed was confusing. He gets on well with it and I'm considering using it for my new business (van hire)

So are you already using GoCardless to collect payments?

It sounds like you're more concerned that the service might stop, leaving customers owing you money rather than the payment provider owing you money. I guess depending how many customers you have either could be as much of a problem.

Yes that's exactly my concern , if for any reason my account became restricted or was closed I would be goosed as far as getting my money from customers , as there appears to be no sort of service contract from them , just a quick sign up with no checking of trading history etc .
Don't get me wrong , I love the service and it's working great , but those issues really concern me .
  • Out of interest, what's your business if you don't mind me asking.

    Supply and install flooring .
  • Used them and had no problems at all. Was cheap and easy to set up.
  • On the other side of the fence - my ISP uses GoCardless, wasn't so happy when I signed up as I had never heard of them.

A year or so down the line and I'm very happy. Email always received prior to payment being taken. Payments are easy to manage and all said, just like any other direct debit but with a bit more control.
