Hi everyone, I noticed there isn't a thread about general Heathrow tips so I thought I ought to start one - that way, someone might also be able to help me out with my problem!
I arrive in at Heathrow from Turkey when I come home from holiday at about 11.30pm on the 15th September - I therefore miss the last tube, the last shuttle to a hotel and can't get a bus.
Therefore, what do I do? I am trying to get back to my home in Seven Sisters, Tottenham - which is 24 miles from Heathrow in NE London, so you can imagine what an expensive taxi that would be.
Alternative is to stay at the Holiday Inn at Heathrow, which is near to Terminal 1 where I fly into, but even then cos the shuttle service is not working, I would have to pay £10 for a bloody taxi.
Surely you can walk the half a mile or so to the Inn from Terminal One? Although the airport staff say that it is not suitable, though I don't understand what they mean - if there is a damn road it is surely walkable...
That way, I could stay there which is only £50 for the night and then get a tube back in the morning which costs peanuts...what do you think? Anyone know how much a Taxi like that might cost back to Tottenham? The problem is getting out of Heathrow - it costs loads because of the flippin traffic 24/7.
No wonder they say the congestion etc is halting the additional growth of the city.... They need to build another airport at Canary Wharf...

When you say 11.30 is that flight arrival time, or time you expect to be out of immigration?
If it's the earlier, there is a 00.06 Heathrow Connect train from Terminal 1,2,3 that will get you to Paddington, you'd still get a tube to Kings Cross, and jump on my least favourite bendy bus, the 73.0 -
Not sure how much luggage you'll have but there are night buses that run from Heathrow.
Numbers are N9 and 140, 105 285

As you get into T1 you could try getting on the NCP car park courtesy bus which goes to the Bath Road end of the Tunnel. The car park is just behind the Hotel next to the tunnel (sorry I can't remember the hotel name).
There are 3 Holiday Inns at Heathrow
One is by J4 of the M4 Motorway and quite difficult to get to.
The second is on the Airport perimeter west of the tunnel.
The third (Holiday Inn Ariel) is on the Bath Road.
All the roads are designed for traffic rather than pedestrians in particular the Tunnel which I would not advise walking through, although there used to be a walkway. It's like a very long underpass.
As you say the Hoppa finishes at 23:00 but I did find this site which lists the free bus routes around Heathrow and the routes that go past various hotels.

Your best option is the N9 bus - this runs every 20mins all night from Heathrow central bus station to central London.
You can either get this as far as one of the hotels on Bath Road: it goes past the Raddison, Rennaisance, Marriott, Sheraton SKYLINE, Holiday Inn ARIEL, Ibis & Premier Travel Inn (think that's about all of them).
Or you can take it all the way to Trafalgar Square and then catch the N279 from Stop C (every 12 mins) which will take you Seven Sisters station.0
