Donating car to charity
Has anyone ever used CarTakeBack, a company that arranges for your car to be donated to charity? We used them to donate the value of an old car of ours to Oxfam (a local garage picks up the car and sells it or scraps it). Having already received a quote via WeBuyAnyCar.com we thought that the charity would receive the same amount, if not more. We were disappointed to find that the car was scrapped for a lot less than WeBuyAnyCar had offered us.
We would have been better off just selling it to WeBuyAnyCar and donating the cash ourselves, but thought we were doing the right thing at the time. We're still waiting for a reply from CarTakeBack as to why they got so little for the car, but just wondered whether any other forum users had heard anything about this company or had the same experience.
I think the next step will be to contact Oxfam to find out whether they definitely received any money.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

The only issue I can think of if contacting Oxfam is that you're not their client, and technically haven't donated directly.
You would have almost certainly got more by selling yourself and donating directly.
I assume they're a company who will take a cut too. What their minimum price is I don't know, however I'd assume they're making a fair profit from it. The money has effectively been split 3 ways here, instead of 2 (WBAC and the charity), and as you've said, there's less of it.💙💛 💔0 -
Scrapped for a lot less, possibly not? But as above there will have been deductions for costs and wages and expenses etc etc so the charity maybe lucky to get 10p in the £.
As above also, you didnt donate the money so they wont discuss it with you.
It will be difficult and costly to prove how much they did or did not give to charity.
Best option, don't do it again and warn others that are thinking of doing it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
i expect one of the scheme's ees sold the cars on themselves to WBAC and just gave the charity the scrap value, pocketing the difference.
It's what I would do, but i'm anti-scruples.0
