Bath cracked after 2 years. 1 year warranty

Options
Hi there,

We've recently discovered a crack in the bath of our bathroom that was installed in early 2014.

It was purchased on our behalf by the plumber who installed the bathroom, and he has contacted the Internet-based retailer directly.

They have stated that the bath had a 1 year warranty so they cannot do anything.

It's important to note that the crack has appeared under normal use and is not a result of damage due to something being dropped.

Surely baths should be expected to have a longer life than 2 years!?

The issue is that due to the bath being tiled in, it's going to be a right pain to replace. Home insurance aren't interested so it's just down to if we have any recourse with the retailer.

Are we up the creek without a paddle?

Look into SOGA, you have up to 6 years to make a case. Although at this point it's up to you to prove the bath was inherently faulty and the problem wasn't caused by you or the way it was installed, which usually involves an independent 3rd party and in this case will probably be difficult to prove.

Sort of - it won't be easy but you may have a case.

You should bare in mind that in this case the retailer is the plumber. So it dosnt matter what the internet baised retailler says all your rights lay with the plumber

What material is the bath? Acrylic, resin, steel, cast iron?
The fault may be in the installation, not the manufacturing.

Perhaps the OP's username indicates overloading. Not having a dig but it stood out to me.

    I thought the same :)
  • Haha :-) Im not fat

But seriously, it's an acrylic bath. I've found some repair kits online so that might have to be the quick fix for now.

Will do some digging with respect to SOGA, so thanks for that tip.
