Skirts riding up when wearing tights

I have some lovely skirts that I can't wear because they don't have linings. When I wear tights with them, they bunch up and I have to keep yanking the front down. I literally can't walk more than a few steps without this happening, so it totally impractical. After speaking to an elderly relative, she said, to prevent this, I should be wearing a 'slip'.
I assume she means some sort of underwear, but I'm not sure exactly what. She's in her 80's so perhaps these things are no longer made. I've found John Lewis do an 'underskirt'. Would that be the right thing? The only other option I can think of would be to get a dressmaker to line every one of the skirts, which would be too expensive.

A slip is a petticoat that only covers from the waist down (whereas a petticoat is a full body & skirt, a bit like a sleeveless nightshirt).

edit - Snap!!
edit 2 - well, my understanding was that a slip was the half-dress, and a petticoat the full dress. It seems like M&S have a different description.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

We always used to call them underskirts where I lived. This is a blast from the past, as I haven't worn one in many years.0

I had never heard of them before. Which makes me wonder if I'm unusual to have this problem. How do other people manage? Maybe they only buy skirts with linings, or do they not need tights? It's too cold for me in winter to do without.0

Primark and H&M do shorter tighter versions of the M&S ones and they look a bit more up to date, you want a silky shiny feeling one to replace the lining of the skirt, some double as shape wear too.0

I remember mum teaching me to make these out of lining material
a slip was the first thing I sewed on my own!

I always wear a slip with dresses - lots of dresses seem to be see through
And it's warmer in winter :cool:0 -
Not meaning to be rude, but how about trying a size up in the skirts, it may be more comfortable, many skirts are sized small now.0

I find its actually the loose, baggy skirts and dresses that are the worst for this. I have a couple of tighter, denim ones and they are ok. I think because they're pulled tight, there's not as much material to get caught up on my tights which stops them riding up.0

I didn't realise that it is now seen as unusual to wear a petticoat.
I always wear one with a skirt or dress it would seem strange not to.
