Dual Fuel vs Separate Gas and Elec

I've been doing some comparisons today on CEC and other comparison sites. Seems selecting separate Gas and Elec suppliers gives me a cheaper overall comparison (by about £40). Does anyone know whether the comparison sites include things like the dual fuel discounts that some suppliers seem to offer? Other than the extra hassle of managing 2 separate suppliers I'm wondering if anyone would recommend this given probably more difficult to switch back to dual fuel in future?

    Welcome to the forum.

They do include the dual fuel discount.

You are correct that getting gas and electricity from separate companies can work out cheaper; but can be a hassle.

I am with Zog and GBEnergy and everything seems to be OK. If I ever want to change back to a dual supplier, then I just switch. The new supplier does all the work and I just wait for 2 final bills.

I am currently going through some switches to separate out my Suppliers. This is a first for me and i am a regular switcher.Already started with the electricity and waiting a short time to see how supplier's respond on the recent round of gas price reductions.

Saved around a £100 on the electricity from previous dual fuel supplier and currently best gas only offer will save a further £115.

Compared with the latest best dual fuel offer I will be around £50 ahead.

I will advise on the hassle aspect, but to date, I haven't encountered any problems.

There is no difference with switching - each fuel is dealt with separately, anyway, and the changeover is usually not the same day even when you are applying for a dual fuel account.
  • Thanks Hengus, Keen to know how you are getting on with GB Energy as they consistently come up cheapest on the Dual fuel option - no hidden surprises? Also a shame you don't seem to get any cashback from them.

I agree with backfoot its maybe worth waiting to see what happens post 1st Feb for gas reductions or whether the MSE Bid Switch Event comes up with any unbeatable deals

The cashback is a referral fee paid to the owners of the comparison site. MSE CEC shares out the spoils. That said, I would rather have no cashback and the full £60 off the cost of the energy.
