Word 2013 Problem

Hi, for some reason my Word 2013 (and Excel/Powerpoint in Microsoft Office) have stopped working on my Lenovo laptop. The message I see when I try to open a document/file is: winword.exe application error, Oxc0000142.
I have trawled around various helpdesks and forums but I can't find a definitive answer. The advice that seems to crop up the most advises going into the program and changing it and then repairing it. However, when I click on the Word 2013 program, for instance, and try and apply 'Change' to it, nothing happens!
Can anybody help me please with some suggestions as to what I can do to get it back! Thank you very much, Jack

The usual advice in these circumstances is to go to the programs/features element of the control panel, and try the uninstall/repair function.
If the repair function doesn't work then uninstall and re-install.
These days the problem is that one rarely has the disks so it has to be downloaded. Lets hope you have the 25 digit license code.
Recently I had to re-install Office 2013, and did get into a pickle, I think it might have been the wrong MS website. Happily and unusually I found the MS telephone support site, very helpful and patient. Sorry I didn't keep the URLs for these sites, no doubt google would assist.0
