Australia and UK retail park

Hi,
We have received a payment demand from DRP, for overstaying in a car park.
We came back to the UK last year for a visit, borrowed a friends car while there, parked in retail park to go shopping, and overstayed by about an hour.
I was unaware of the parking restriction, and was unaware that I even had a ticket!
On our return to Australia, my friend received the notice we had overstayed, and thought it would be funny to pass on my details and see what they would do...
Well they chased me for payment.. But every demand we have received has arrived after the allotted time given to reply, some by as much as 4 weeks, as they send the demands via 2nd class post.
So far we have ignored them, but not sure if they can actually do anything as I do not live in the UK.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

DRP are just a debt collection company so they can't do anything; therefore continue to ignore.
Are you allowed to write "return to sender" on them; it could get very expensive for DRP.0 -
Just for a laugh you could respond back using Sea Mail which would take 3 months to arrive but postage would cost you $10.80....not exactly cheap.originalfunster wrote: »Hi,

lol, both of those ideas would be funny... they are demanding £149.99 so $10.80 is a lot cheaper...0

What a bunch of dippies they are. My understanding is that the Australian government have zero tolerance for scammers, unlike the UK government.
What are they going to do apart from waste their money. The parking companies have no legal rights so all that they could ever do is issue a county court summons but, I could never see a uk court sending you, in Australia, such paperwork, complete joke.
Mind you Debt Recovery Plus are so stupid they might jump on a plane to visit you, which airline would you suggest, Quantas or British Airways ?
As they have no legal rights here, they certainly would not have legal rights in Aussie
I can just see the newspaper headlines
" Crocodile Dundee being chased for money by UK scammer"
Your friend is safe, all liability was passed to you
Made my day, DRP go waste your money0 -

I wonder if you put a Sea Mail sticker on a letter but paid the Air Mail price which is much cheaper for small and very light letters up to 50g if it would actually go via sea.:footie:

Lol,
My mate wasn't bothered, I actually told him I would pay it at the time, and he said no lets see what they do?
Told him tonight they have started chasing again (not heard from them for a bout 3 months) so he said he would pay it.
Told him to wait while I found out what, if anything the can do first (hence my post) I cant believe they do not send it out registered post!! Hopefully I can use that in my defence as never receiving a thing from them, if needed...0 -
The other thing is, had I known about the parking limit, I would have just moved the car, we were actually shopping in the retail park all that time, (wife and 2 teenage girls) bought half of Next between the 3 of them.
The retail park is at the back of a large supermarket, so would have just moved down to the supermarket carpark and walked 15m back to the cloth shops0 -

Your friend has discharged his responsibility by naming you as driver. Let us know if DRP decide to chase your friend and send him here.
There is nothing DRP can do except send out poor quality bog paper or fire lighters, no matter what colour ink they put on it.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

NO NO NO, your mate must not pay, it is nothing to do with him now. JUST IGNORE all the letters and sooner or later they will stop, it happens here all the time.
If your mate pays them, he is feeding the scammers and we do not want that. Nothing will happen to you or your friend, they are powerless to do anything
You have nothing to defend, your are in Austrailia, the scamming vermin are the UK. I really cannot believe that the scammer is so stupid0 -
What's even more amusing is when you see the demands in German, Italian and French.... typically Parking Eye cases pursuing residents in those countries.
Ironically though they only accept appeals in English .....0
