Tesco Clubcard vouchers and refund.

Undervalued

Tesco's "helpline" have given me a return authorisation number for a faulty electrical item bought in store. This is the second faulty one so this time I an inclined to opt for a refund.
However I paid the majority of the cost with doubled up Clubcard vouchers. The helpline "think" (their words) that the store will only refund the small amount I paid by credit card and re-instate the original number of Clubcard points.
Effectively that means I will lose half the value of the vouchers unless they repeat the double up offer for something I happen to want to buy in the future.
It seems unfair that I should be out of pocket on top of the inconvenience of returning two faulty products. I assume they have the right to insist on this but if anybody knows differently I would love to hear.
Thanks

You're not out of pocket as the extra points were promotional. You never had that 'in your pocket' in the first place except for that specific type of item at that time.0

Sorry but I don't agree.
Had Tesco not supplied two faulty products I would have saved the cash value of the vouchers that I doubled up.
Obviously I could have a third replacement in the hope that works correctly but if I opt for a refund in order to buy an alternative elsewhere then I am down by that amount of money.
If they happen to do another "double up" in the future that covers something I want to buy then it squares up but not otherwise.
The real underlying problem here is that I think there is a design fault with the Tesco own label product but they don't want to admit it. They are happy to agree it is faulty but I trying to insist I have just been unlucky. That may, just possibly, be true but how many do I try? Three, Four, five.......
It is not the easiest thing to repack and not particularly convenient for me to return which is why I want to opt out and have a refund.0 -
Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the "double up" apply if you buy certain things so if you have £5 worth of cash (to spend anywhere) vouchers you can boost them to £10 worth of CD's or a specific section of the store, like clothes?
If that's the case then marliepanda is correct it was a promotion. You didn't have the £10 to begin with you had £5. If you wanted to keep the £10 value you would have to stick to that promotion and swap the item for the same thing.
It would be unreasonable for tesco to say "You have to pay the difference on the replacement item as its no longer the same promotion".0 -

If they returned it all you'd have double the cash you originally had0 -

I agree. Tesco must put the customer back to their original position, that being x cash and y Clubcard points. They may choose to refund the full amount in cash/ to the credit card, but that would be a goodwill gesture, it would be more than the law requires them to do.0
