O/S Daily Thursday 21 January 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Still dark, looks very frosty, foggy and cold this morning.
Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, carrots, broccoli, peas and gravy – the pie was very well received by the menfolk – nice winter warming food after a cold day. Today will be tortellini/ravoli with a creamy tomato or creamy mushroom sauce.
Work was busier than we expected yesterday after a quieter than normal Monday – all my colleagues were quite subdued as we’re now in a situation where we know something is going to happen but we don’t know when or what. Being realistic whatever they decide they have to take it to consultation and then give the relevant staff redundancy notices – so in reality as none of this is happening as yet I think nothing will be able to happen for nearly 6 months due to the notice periods etc – I may be wrong, does anyone have experience of this sort of situation?
Today I will be trying to keep busy – so housework, washing, drying and ironing etc.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all, freezing and frosty here again, have given in and just put the heating on, but low. Thermal socks on.
Nmlc we are in a similar process and not for the first time. I have given up worrying about it as that has not been an effective strategy so far. In my job, we do usually get some information during the consultancy period about which jobs or teams are likely to go and there are, I think, opportunities for redeployment. It is demoralising and we have lost a lot of staff who have opted for redundancy or simply left because of their feelings of insecurity. All horribly unsettling but the actual process is very slow for us, people have had lots of notice and time off for interviews etc. I should add that though there has been a knock on effect for me and my colleagues, my job has been safe. If redundancy had been offered I would have taken it. But redeployment would have been more likely and I would have probably been moved from my specialist area of work to something else that I haven't done for over 30 years, no thanks. So I am waiting for the outcome of the current round. Right now am pretty demoralised.
However i am now off for a couple of weeks, other than a couple of jobs that I couldn't complete yesterday, after a 10 hour stint I started to flag a bit, will do those later.
LW I am sorry to read about your horrible experience, sadly I have heard similar from friends elsewhere. Hope the outcome is good.
The washing machine has just finished so things will go on drying racks in a minute, I need to make pizza dough soon as it will probably take hours extra to prove.
Dentist tomorrow and may have to have root canal work, since I went for temporary filling though, I have a suspicion that I may have problems in the upper gum as well as the lower and have a wobbly filling on the other side Oh Happiness and Joy. Apart from it being an unpleasant experience, the expense is fearsome. My employers have again managed to forget to pay me for two jobs done in my own time (these attract an agreed fee) so the dentist will probably own all my savings until the end of next month, when fees should finally get paid following a complaint from my manager.
Today I have no plans, will have a tidy up, cook and do more toymaking.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
It's cold here but the car doesn't need scraping, probably as I didn't get home until 11 as there were problems with the alarm system at work.
The fish have been fed, hubby has a cuppa and now it's a mad rush here, whilst my DD is unwell I'm helping with the school run in the morning. Yesterday I finished work at 2, went to visit an ex colleague who's been unwell, then on to DD to get the kids fed and off to bed, then home for an hour, then back out to collect hubby where I then had to hang about for an hour because of the alarm problems. Lets hope the problems are sorted today.
LW sorry to hear your interview was every bit as bad as you'd anticipated, I gather these people are chosen for just the sort of skills your assessor showed, and don't forget it is the government who choose to put this system in place with the intention of making as many people as possible come off benefit!

Morning All
Gosh, it's cold this morning! I had a rubbish nights sleep, can't think of a reason why, it's going to be a long day!
We have a netball match away after school today, if we get back at a decent time I can nip up to the hospice for a short shift. Mostly depends on whether the children get picked up on time, some of the parents seem to think we will look after them till they have finished their shopping, etc.
Had a lovely salad for tea, may have another today, depends on what is on offer at the school dinner hall - yesterday I had sausages, yorkies and swede (passed on the mash). All the meat products are now from the butchers and are so much better than the old frozen rubbish they used to get.
Washing on the airer, DW emptied. Must have a dust and hoover round soon, got lots to do at the weekend so will try to get all the housework done today and tomorrow.
Nearly Friday! Take care. XX0 -
Morning all. Brr it looks a cold one out there, a layer of frost over everything.
When yesterday's fog had lifted we had a lovely sunny day and it was really pleasant wandering round Skipton market. Not too busy as only a few coach trips had descended this early in the season. We had a lovely lunch in the Lion, as always. Got a pair of slippers from Fat Face sale for DD's bf's birthday. Need to get something else too but nothing caught my eye. He's a hard one to buy for.
Today is shopping day. A few odd bits needed from Sainsbobs, then onwards to Aldi for the rest. I'm still trying to keep my lists low and live from the freezers and cupboards where I can. But my last pack of mince is defrosting so must stock up on that as we go through a lot.
We have the 3 DGDs for tea and sleepover. I plan on making a big Shepherds Pie, with baby carrots, swede and peas as they are always "starving" when they come after swimming club!
Have a good day all (((((HUGS)))))) all round and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Brrr cold here again, luckily I don't have to scrape the car as I am under a car port, I really love that thing !
Off to work for me short week this week due to long week last week so very nice. Something quick and easy for dinner with chips, dd is off to a friends for pizza and wine so its just OH and I here.
Need to do a wash tonight will have to put it in the TD as nothing can go on the airer, although I could possibly put the airer in the conservatory overnight  I wonder if that would help ? Its unheated atm but might just take a bit of damp out ?
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
I,m enjoying a lie in, DH just left for work, DS can be heard stumbling around, so is off to 6th form.
I,m still in bed with pad and paper writing my shopping list. Although I don,t have much to get, DD is coming with me, and appears to want to take most of Sainsbobs with her to Kenya:eek:
Sausage, mashed pots and swede, with Carrots, sprouts and gravy for dinner
Take care all XNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Morning everyone,
Beautiful morning here, cold but clear with a heavy white frost. Nose and toes now defrosting after walk, girls snuggled in their beds.
Thoroughly enjoyed the SW film, as always took our own treats and water, it was DOH first ever SW film and now he wants to watch all the others:)
Off food shopping this morning, have some vouchers for Mr Sparks so will make the most of those, hopefully will get Bill out for a nice long walk this afternoon.
Take care everyone and have a good day x0 -
Morning everyone.
LW - it all sounds awful for you. All I can add is to take the advice from yesterday. Gentle virtual hugs for you.
Feels cold still but there's not any frost here. It's now beginning to get light and grey.
Yesterday was teaching time which took up most of the day despite the face to face time only lasting two hours. We all managed to have a good old laugh this time. Then I went to the country store for bird peanuts, they were fairly expensive but I wanted them immediately rather than wait for a delivery.
My suitcase is now packed for my weekend away. :j
As for today...I shall strip the bed and do a white wash. Once that's hung up on the clothes horse upstairs. Breakfast is going to be scrambled eggs with left over steak strips from last night. Then I'm off down to Glasgow for a stopover with mum.
I hope everyone has a good Thursday.0 -
Morning all. Is cold and frosty here but looked so lovely on the field this morning. Have had a busy but productive morning so far. I've made a couple of crustless quiches which are now in the oven, as the eggs needed using up. I've also put tonight's tea in the slow cooker - spicy pork casserole which I will serve with rice. The wm is on the go and I managed to get a bit of the ironing pile down but there's still plenty to keep me occupied this afternoon. Floors need a sweep and mop later and the kitchen needs a good clean so will get on with that.
Had a moment yesterday where the TV wouldn't switch on and thought it was broken. Wasn't best pleased that we would have to spend money replacing it but thankfully someone had just unplugged it. It's on an extension lead so isn't normally unplugged which is why I didn't twig at first but thankfully it isn't broken

Hi everyone,
LW, sorry your interview was so awful, why are people like that, it can't make them happy!
I'm sorry about your work problems NMLC, DH went through it several times with M & S, once getting to 4 days before leaving before they offered him a position he wanted to take (he'd turned down several other offers of uninteresting jobs). It turned out to be the best job he'd ever had so sometimes good can come out f bad.
We spent last evening at DS' with DH trying to deal with a leaking tap - it seems that the increased water pressure from the new system was too much of it. They made a trip to B & Q because their website said they were open until 9.00 but when they got there it had hand written notices saying they had closed at 8.00 grr.
There's again not a lot planned here apart from sewing and keeping warm. Have a good day.0
