We want the Amazon firestick to be able to watch Youtube on our smart TV. The tv Doesn't have the youtube app, but has a HDMI port.
So for youtube and other apps, want to buy the Amazon firestick.
If you get the Amazon firestick from the shop, and connect it, then do we just pay the one time payment of the stick, connect it and we are able to view youtube for example.
i) a one time payment only of the stick, or there is a monthly Amazon charge, for the amazon account?
ii) What type of Amazon account do you need?
- is a new Free amazon account fine ?
iii) What do we need to connect? Is the following enough ?
-We want to View the youtube app, to see youtube on a Panasonic Smart TV,
This tv has a HDMI socket, but the TV Doesn't have youtube.
There is BT broadband/ router giving a WIFI signal.
So we have a smart TV, HDMI socket, WIFI, Amazon stick to get.
Is that all that is needed, to be able to connect and get the youtube App ?
(We don't want extra things to be added, such as laptop or mobile phones)
iiii) Have you used the Amazon firestick? What was your experience, were there any connectivity issues??

1. The basic Amazon Fire Stick costs £35
2. To watch films and TV using the standard device you need Amazon Prime. Cost £79 annually. For certain things like BBC Iplayer you do not need Prime and can watch for free..
Thank you.
How about watching youtube, via the youtube app, through the Amazon firestick, is that free to watch ? (without prime) ?0 -
If you just want to watch YouTube buy a NOWTV box for £14.99 with no annual subscription, unless you choose to pay extra for add-ons.
You get all the catch-up tv channels as well.0 -
you don't need amazon prime for standard TV there are free apps available in the amazon store for that0

You only need an Amazon prime membership to watch Amazon content
You can download apps without a membership, and then use it to watch Youtube, bbc iplayer, Demand 5, Netflix ect.
I've got an Apple TV box, Chromecast and a Fire TV Stick. The FireTV stick is by far my favourite. My 4 year old can even use it.
I do think you get the most out of it with either a Netflix or Amazon prime membership, but the 'free' content is still pretty good.0 -
to connect then yes you have enough
the fire stick itself has no subscription fees etc so you only order the stick. That said if you think you may want amazon streaming content too, then you may wish to consider subscribing to amazon prime subscription.
there are other aps such as nextflix etc which if you wish to access their content via the stick then you would need to subscribe direct to (i.e. netflix in this example).
I've got a couple of amazon sticks on various tv's and like them, i also have the original amazon fire tv box as well (not the new 4k model) and have never had an issue with them. That said though i mainly use them for amazon prime streaming and netflix.
There are other aps on there that are good too and free (catch ups from bbci player etc, flixter if you have make use of the ultraviolet codes on some dvd's/bluerays etc). there is also a music ap meaning that you can listen to albums you've bought from amazon.
You will also need to have a spare plug socket as well as they don't use the tv's electricity so need to be plugged in themselves.
also check your wifi will be ok there as they are wifi only, if you may need to go for a wired connection you may want to consider the fire tv rather than the stick as that had an ethernet option too.
PS before buying this you may want to see if you have a blueray or dvd player with smart features on first as many have you tube, also double check the smart tv's ap store first as most manufacturers have got you tube available already.MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
Where can it be bought for £14.99?
