Hello all,
Does anyone here know the process for switching home branches for HSBC and TSB? I would like to have a new sort-code that comes from my local branch instead.
Is this possible and what is the process?
Would I have to close my existing accounts first?
Thanks.

Most banks operate under a 'any branch is your home branch' policy. There's not really anything you'd have to go to your 'home' branch for specifically.
Saying that, if you did want to switch it, most likely you'll have to open up a new account and close the existing ones.0 -

Thank you. Just out of interest, do banks make the applicants wait a certain period of time before they can re-open a new account? I know they do that with credit card applications and one can't apply again for 18 months or something like that.

Not if you want an account and not just any incentive.
The problem will be is that they will link their old file about you to your new one which could mean they issue you with same sort code.
Doesn't it seem to you to be a waste of time?0 -

In my experience (with RBS) this is true.
When I asked about switching branches they wanted me to open a new account in the local branch and switch the old one over.
I didn't bother.0 -

If you go into your new local branch and ask, they can probably arrange the changeover for you. It will still be opening a new account and switching the old one though.Eco Miser
