Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I'm a newbie and not too good with techie stuff.
I took my car for a servicing yesterday, they called me on the phone to tell me it required some work which the guy confirmed was a new belt, new pulley and new alternator. I asked 'how much is that gonna cost me' to which he replied £317. At this stage I authorised the repairs, When I collected the car today.the bill had VAT added which made it for more than I'd expected. Unfortunately the guy who quoted me (the owner and manager) wasn't available.
I'd like to know if I have any argument for not paying the VAT as I intend calling him tomorrow to discuss the bill in detail?
Thanks

Providing you're a consumer and not acting in the course of a business, then yes prices should always include VAT and as a consumer, you should be given the total price to pay (or if they can't calculate the total price, the way in which it will be calculated). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
