Hi everyone, I probably know the answer to this but would appreciate thoughts!

PC has 2 admin local accounts, A&B.

Under account A I upgraded Win 8 to Win 10.

Cortana isn't working, can't see it at all, nor is search & settings.

I see from googling this is a common, on going issue.

Tried some of the fixes without success. I do have Avast but so does account B!

Checked account B and it's all working perfectly there.

Am I best off starting a new account from scratch and removing/ de-activating A?

  • IIRC for Cortana to work you need a login which is linked to Microsoft account (Live, Hotmail) etc. A purely local Window login won't activate Cortana.

Local account B has cortona working well, all is good there, just on account A i'm having issues.

I also think I mucked up the Store somehow, working on that too!

I messed up badly with the Store so rolling back to Win8.

Next have time to spend on it Friday when either I'll try 10 again or put 8.1 on and re-attempt 10 before the free upgrade runs out...

Strange that 8 to 8.1 went so much better on a an inferior netbook, Acer won't support 10 on that model so didn't try.
