PIP Length of Award

Options
Hello,I have just transferred from DLA to PIP,I have progressive MS and with DLA the award was for an indefinite period. The PIP award was until Dec 2025 when they said they will contact me.
Is the length of time the PIP was awarded the norm or do people get shorter or longer awards,I realise everyone is different but with a condition like MS which will only get worse, would I be correct in thinking PIP do not give indefinite longer awards.
I am relieved to have been awarded PIP after reading people's experiences.
Thanks for reading this.

I also have progressive MS, diagnosed 1996, confined to wheelchair and rely on hoist for transfers. WOW 2025 thats a great award, I havent been called up yet for assessment but am hoping I am successful and get a similar time.

My appeal was granted for 15 years, which the judge said was the maximum she could allow.
    That was last August.

  • 10 year is pretty good.
  • My son hasn't been transferred to PIP yet, and I didn't realise that the awards could be so lengthy. I was under the (mistaken) impression hat they were no longer than 3 years. Glad to see I was wrong!

    youre confusing it with ESA
  • Thanks nannytone. My son is still at school, so not on ESA yet. I've obviously read something somewhere and got mixed up.
  • Hi

My award is for 4 years, and i think thats a fairly standard length of award. My award runs to 2019 but i expect to be called in for review in 2018

  • 10 years is the longest award possible - it is called "ongoing" but they check about 9 years ahead just to see if you are still the same, better or worse. You may not even be called to a meeting if you have fresh evidence.
