No Claims Bonus - no longer main driver

Looking for a bit of help/advice....


My girlfriend sold her car December 2014 and has, since then, been a named driver on my policy. Before selling her car she built up 5 years NCB but doesn't use this on my policy. The 5 years NCB is only valid for 2 years and there is no intention of bringing a second car into the household in the next year.


How can we ensure she doesn't lose this?

Maybe alternate each year who the policyholder is and who gets to be named driver?

Thanks. That was the only solution I could come up with which didn't involve buying another car.


I know some insurance companies allow named drivers to build up their own no claims so do they allow named drivers to bring an existing NCB with them, even if it doesn't necessarily count towards reducing the premium?

The snag with named driver discount is that it isn't proper NCD, and you can only use it to buy a policy with the company that gives it.


Alternating policyholder is the best way to save it from expiring.


Most companies accept it up to 2 years old, so if one of you gets a cheaper premium than the other then you could alternate every 2 years with the cheapest policyholder, and just one year with the more expensive policyholder

Seems like that's the only way to go - didn't think about that snag with named driver discount.
